On Saturday 8th July, six students from Corelli College Sixth Form marched alongside Stonewall at the Pride in London event, the only school group nationwide to do so.
The day started with a Q&A at the University of Westminster with a panel from all walks of the LGBT community, who related their experiences of coming out and living as out gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals. Led by Ruth Hunt, CEO of Stonewall, many stories were moving and encouraged those present to think about how they could take the lead in their towns and organisations to promote LGBT equality.
The group then joined thousands of other activists, representatives, celebrities and members of the public to march to Whitehall in celebration and support of LGBT achievements, and in solidarity with those living in countries and communities where identifying as LGBT can lead to persecution, prosecution and even death.
The students demonstrated an excellent attitude throughout the day, and some have already expressed an interest in joining Stonewall's Young Campaigner team in order to further the charity's work.
Everyone represented themselves, their academy and their community in such a mature and considered way.
